Back in 2005, BNB – Banco do Nordeste do Brasil decided to adopt a new IT architecture based on Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA), providing greater flexibility in serving customers. This new approach led to the development of numerous software services, which, in turn, created the need for a catalog to centralize information about these services and assets.
The idea was that a cataloged system would encourage reuse and efficient usage. That’s when BNB decided to invest in an SOA Governance Project, enlisting Stefanini Scala for this challenge, who took on the development of tools and consulting services.
SOA Governance translates to defining the policies, procedures, and processes necessary for efficient and effective decision-making about services. While IT Governance covers aspects such as Data Governance and IT Security, SOA Governance goes further, also addressing aspects of the “service lifecycle,” such as registration, ownership, publication and discovery, versioning, and security.
A solution that encourages reuse leads to cost reduction and reduced rework, accelerates solution delivery timelines, enables administration, promotion, and end-to-end visibility, traceability, and tracking of the entire lifecycle of services and software assets, both vertically and horizontally. You can see that the advantages are many, right?
